UBonn is the only German university with as many as eight Clusters of Excellence awarded by the National Ministries of Research in 2025 and in recent decades it has produced more winners of the Nobel Prize and Fields Medal than any other
German university. UBonn has a 200-year history of combining excellent research in a range of disciplines with research-led teaching. Since 2019, UBonn is one of eleven German Universities of Excellence. UBonn has eight Clusters of Excellence – more than any other funded university. In recent decades, two Nobel Prize winners have emerged from the UBonn ranks, and UBonn is the University with the only two German winners of the Fields Medal. 31,000 students and 7,000 PhDs study with UBonn in around 200 subject areas.

The University of Bonn (UBonn) has a strong focus on educational innovation and the digital transformation of teaching and learning. Its Digital Strategy promotes the development of innovative and secure infrastructures for research, teaching, and university services, while strengthening the university’s position as a leading European institution.

UBonn actively supports the development, testing, and implementation of digitally assisted teaching, learning, and assessment formats. It also promotes dialogue on university teaching and the dissemination and adoption of innovative educational practices.

Role in DC4Democracy
UBonn leads WP5 – Piloting and WP7 – Dissemination, while contributing to all other Work Packages. Its extensive experience in implementing large-scale digital education and learning initiatives provides a strong foundation for coordinating pilot activities, testing project results in educational settings, and supporting the effective dissemination and uptake of project outcomes.

Key Activities
1. Leading WP5 – Piloting: Coordinating the implementation, testing, and evaluation of project activities in real educational environments.
2. Leading WP7 – Dissemination: Supporting the communication, dissemination, and wider uptake of project results and resources.
3. Cross-WP Contribution: Providing expertise and support across all other Work Packages.
4. Digital Education Innovation: Applying experience in digitally assisted teaching, learning, and assessment to support the development and validation of DC4Democracy solutions.
